How to Mailbox!

Everybody knows about the mailbox. There's usually some Night Elf or Troll dancing on top of it or someone on their huge gigantimus (ya that's right gigantimus) Travelers Tundra Mammoth trying to hide it from everyone.

So let's look at some things that might help you make better use of the mailbox. If you only have 1 alt you can always mail stuff back and forth between characters to basically create extra bag space for yourself. Albeit you gotta remember to check your mail at least every 30 days so that you don't risk those items getting deleted.

How do you mailbox? Chances are, if you are new to the game, you click on each piece of mail, open it, then click whatever items or gold are inside there, but did you know you can just "Shift + Click" on a mail item and instantly have the items or gold pop into your inventory? I know! What a time saver!

But that's not the only time saver I've got for you today little gold goblin Oh no. Let's go back to our add-ons! Hopefully by now you took the time out of your busy day to download Postal. If not go download it and install it. (I'll wait) .... Okay great now that we've got it install let's see why it's awesome.

That's right, one button to open them all! That's it. You hit that one button and up to 50 mails at a time get opened and the loot inside them pops into your inventory. So when you have too many pieces of mail sitting in your inbox when you log on, walk over to the mailbox hit "Open All", go make yourself a nice cup of coffee, and comeback to all of your gold and items in your bags waiting for you. Now if you get impatient like me and you don't like waiting for Postal to refresh your mail every 50 items then you can always type "/console reloadui" and it will refresh them more quickly!

Okay, I know this isn't really a gold specific making tip, but it is a time saving tip which will allow you to spend more time making gold! Like the Goblins say, "Time is money friend!"

Love you little gold goblins and gnomes!

The Flip - (The Undermine Journal)

One great way to make money on the Auction House is by flipping items. That means that someone whether because they didn't know or didn't care, put up something on the Auction House for an amount cheaper than what the going rate is for that item. You then buy it out and relist it for the correct amount or an even higher than average amount.

Let's see how this works. Get your little auction house toon out and run to your local Auction House. Next tab out of the game and visit The Undermine Journal. Select your Server and your Faction and you should get a screen that looks something like this.

Click on the Great Deals tab and the Great Deals option. This will show you a list of what is currently up on your local Auction House that is currently under-priced compared to what is normal for your own server and other servers.

Flipping through the page leads us to lots of potential options for greater gold. I personally found the Engraved Breastplate to be a good deal. You can see here it is listed for 15g, but the Mean price is 445.48g and the Global Median is 512.25. I usually average the two prices to get a more accurate view of what I could potentially make on that item. That would give us around 478 gold. Now there are two reasons why this piece of armor is going for 400+ gold it either looks cool or has great stats. Both of these are subjective so you have to have a good taste of style or a good working knowledge of gear.

So let's tab back over to the Auction House and see 1 if this item is still up for sale (which it should be unless someone else already thought it was a good deal) and 2 if we want to invest in it.

Looks like there are already 4 other auctions for the Engraved Breastplate with the cheapest other option being 361g. So instantly I know this is probably gonna be an easy to say yes to investment. 300g profit isn't too bad a deal. Now let's check out how it looks. Ctrl + Click the item to try it on. It looks pretty cool. Not too many chest pieces have this style so it will probably sell based on looks alone.

Now we just need to buy it up, relist it for 360g (making your auction the cheapest option currently available), and wait for that profit to roll in.

Alright gold goblins and gnomes, I hope you give the flip a shot.
Here's to making tons of gold on the Auction House today!

Until tomorrow,

Moving Money (Le Part 2)

Yesterday we talked about how to move money across faction or servers via pets. Today let's look at a different method, the Neutral Auction House.

First off, this method only deals with cross faction money movement. Okay, so a while back we talked about making a Neutral Auction House alt. Now it's time to pull those little guys out and put them to work. (Zug Zug). The best way to do this is with two separate wow accounts. I personally have about 6 (though most I don't keep active anymore), but you only need 2. So get one of your alts out to the Neutral Auction House. I personally love the Booty Bay version, but there is always alternatives.

Figure out which side you want the money on and have that character list an item (it doesn't matter what the item is if you just want to move money). Below I listed a Blue Sapphire. Now don't click Create Auction yet.

Switch over to your second account where your alt should be waiting at that same auction house and type in the name of the item in the search bar.

Now go back to the seller account and create the auction. As quickly as you can switch back to the second account and hit that search button. Up pops the auction you just listed. Click buyout and accept the prompt. You just moved gold from one side to the other and an item from one side to the other.

Now here are somethings to be aware of. Some people called snipers are just waiting for you to list your items for cheap so if it is an item that you want to move across factions sell it for a high price to yourself you will take a little bit of an auction house cut, but if it's a high enough priced item you will still make the money you need when you sell it to someone else.

Another thing to try when moving items or gold cross faction is to do it really late at night or very early in the morning when most people are sleeping, so if you don't have much money on the other side and need to move items the chance of your items being sniped from you is much slimmer. I know from experience. I lost a stack of 10x Glyph of Angels the second day of 5.4 and ended up costing me about 8000g in profits lost to the auctioneer who bought them out from under me and resold them.

Now you may ask, why bother with selling cross faction when you only really play on one side? Well, for me the effort and time spent selling to both factions just about doubles what I make per week compared to when I just sold to one side. Some weeks one side will just destroy the other in profits. So in my opinion it is definitely worth getting your product out to more potential buyers.

Alright gold goblins and gnomes,

Moving Money (Macabre Edition)

We've talked about selling pets on the Auction House, but there's another advantage of selling pets on the auction house besides just making gold. That my greedy little gold goblin (or gnome) is using pets to move money.

Once upon a time, when I spent months grinding ghouls in Eastern Plaguelands to save for my Green Skeletal Warhorse, most people had 1 maybe 2 characters and the majority were of the same faction and of course on the same server.
(oldest screenshot I could find of my first character back in 2004)

These days almost everyone has their own little army of alts on both sides and on numerous factions. That being said the majority of people have the bulk of their gold on one faction on one server with a spattering of gold pieces on the other alts.

Everyone knows or should know by now that if you need some money on an alt you can just mail it back and forth between your characters as needed... as long as they are both of the same faction and server. So what do you do when you need money on the other faction side or a different server. Well you could always pay to transfer your character who is stocked up with gold to that other faction or server. However I'm guessing it's not worth $30 to everyone.

So let's take a look at one of the other options you have.

The first and most easy to maneuver to understand is going to be moving pets. Last month during the Day of the Dead a lvl 90 character could do a simple quest line that gave you a Macabre Marionette. (Here the Macabre Marionette is not the only pet you could do this with, but since I had a slew of them in my bags I figured I'd use this pet as an example.)

So when you get the pet right click it to learn it. Then access your pet tab (shift + p) type the name of the pet in the search bar and right click it. Pick the option to Put in Cage and hit okay when the prompt comes up.

Now take your pet to the local auction house and you can sell it right away. As seen here on Emerald Dream Alliance side they are going for 400 gold.

I know what you're saying ... that's not moving money that's just selling on the auction house. So let's right click that caged pet again (to relearn it) and this time log out. Switch over to the server or faction you need money on. Go to your pet tab, put the pet in a cage and sell it on this faction or servers auction house. Look at that! On Drak'Tharon Horde side this pet goes for 900g. So put it up on the auction house and make yourself some money on that Faction or Server where you needed a little extra gold.

(yes you are right that is the whole Twill Set .. it's okay you can be jealous :P )

As I said this isn't the only pet or the limit to what you can do with moving pets. If you really like playing on different servers or factions auction houses you can go back and forth and see low selling prices on one side of the auction house, buy them up and relist them on the other side.

Okay gold goblins and gnomes hope you learned something new. Try it out! Get that money moved to where you want it.

Have a great day and make lots and lots of gold!

Until tomorrow,

The Wednesday Weekly Wrap up!

Whew another week gone by. Seems like this one went by faster than the last. So let's take a look back at what happened.

This week's main focus was setting up your own little vendor pet shop. We started off with the Alliance pets, then took a look at what was available for the Horde (where we learned about the sad fate of Xan'tish's snakes), and lastly we searched around Azeroth to find all the pets available to resell from Neutral pet vendors.

We then learned how to install an Add-on. Once that was done we took our first steps into learning how to use Auctionator.

On a more personal level, this week was a bit busier than most, so aside from listing relisting glyphs, doing profession dailies, and making sure my farms were tended to I didn't have a chance to do much else. That being said, it was still not a bad haul. I ended up adding another 60k or so to the 1 million gold goal.

I mentioned on last week's Wednesday's Wrap Up that I was going to try selling Mysterious Fortune Cards since I usually have some excess Ink of Dreams just laying around. I started out making only 30 just to see how they would sell and at the end of the week I still ended up with around 20. Each one, that did sell, only sold for around 6 to 8 gold each so for me the time investment is better spent using the inks to make glyphs and just having a nice backstock in case I run low.

I've been thinking about expanding beyond just the 5.4 glyphs to include the glyphs that are learned from doing the Scroll of Wisdom daily cooldown. Hopefully time permits this week to give that a try.

Okay gold goblins and gnomes, I hope you all had a wonderful week, and that you learned something or tried something new. Most of all I hope that you made tons of gold and had fun doing it!

Until tomorrow,

How to ... Auctionator! (part 1)

Let's take a brief look at how to use Auctionator. After learning how to install our add-on yesterday let's get that fresh lovely little bank alt out and visit an Auction House.

One of the first things you'l notice here is the addition of a few extra tabs. The big one you're going to use is the Sell tab.

Click that tab and you'll see a whole new funky page with tons of little buttons and inputs. The first thing you want to do, since you haven't used this add-on before, is to do a Full Scan. This is going to take a few minutes so go grab yourself a nice cup of coffee or strike up a conversation with your favorite auctioneer (which by default has to be Jaxon). What is a full scan? Why are we doing it? A full scan takes an inventory of everything listed in the auction house at the moment you scan it along with it's price. This allows you to have a rough idea of what items go for. Now to get a more informed idea of an average price for an individual item you are going to want to scan everyday for a week (or months for an even more accurate idea).

Now that we know what the going rate is for an item lets put it up for sale. So take the item that you want to sell and click and drop it in the little window (as seen below). If your full scan has seen this item before it will give you the last known price and auto input it in the Buyout price slot. If that is the price you want to list it for double, check the Duration you want the item up on the auction house for (48 hours as seen below), if that is not correct you can switch it to the desired time you want (12, 24, or 48 hours) then click the big red Create Auction button.

Yatta! You've now listed an item on the Auction House using Auctionator. It might seem like a lot of steps, but with a little practice this system is a lot more informed, easy to use, and faster than using the default Auction House set up. So get out there little gold goblins and gnomes, start trying out your new add-on, and most of all start making yourself a lot of gold!

Installing an Add-on

Before we can really get to the next step I realized I mentioned what add-ons are great to install, but failed to describe how to install them. So let's figure that out.

So the first add-on that I mentioned that I loved is called Auctionator. So head over to http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/auctionator and click the little Download Now button.

Now locate where you downloaded the add-on to. Double Click the add-on and drag the file into your Add-on folder. For me it is located in C: > Program Files (x86) > World of Warcraft > Interface > Addons

The last step is to make sure your add-on is turned on. So open up World of Warcraft sign in and hit the Add-on's button in the bottom left corner. Make sure the add-on you just installed has a check mark next to it and it if is out of date check the load out of date add-ons button in the upper right. Hit the okay button and log into the game with your new fancy add-on!

Okay gold goblins and gnomes that's all for today! Hope you learned something new. Now go install some add-ons!

Until tomorrow,
